What's the difference between on-road and off-road diesel?
On-road diesel fuel is clear and is designed and authorized for use in for vehicles that drive on roads. This type of fuel is taxed and is not able to be used for vehicles and equipment that are designated for off-road use such as farming equipment.
Off-road diesel fuel contains an added red dye (known as dyed diesel) and is not designed for vehicles or equipment that drive on the road. This type of fuel is not taxed because it is designed for use in vehicles and equipment that do not drive on roads.
